BitRaser File Eraser Network
BitRaser File Eraser Network / 5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What does BitRaser File Eraser Network do?
As the name suggests, BitRaser File Eraser Network is a software crafted to permanently erase files, folders, Internet history, system and application traces from multiple computers and OUs at once. Designed by keeping the requirements of domain administrators in focus, the software facilitates the erasure of data simultaneously from any or all of the computers/Organizational Units (OUs) connected to the network, resulting in easy management of data.
2. Does BitRaser File Eraser Network remove data beyond recovery?
Yes, BitRaser File Eraser Network removes data beyond recovery. It features eighteen top-tier erasure algorithms such as NIST 800-88 Clear and US Department DoD 5220.22-M, additionally offers erasure verification choices including Random verification and Total verification, ensuring thorough data eradication.
3. Which algorithm should I choose for best erasure?
It depends upon how many times an algorithm overwrites the data precisely or the number of passes used to erase the data. More the number of passes used by the algorithm, the more effective it is. Each algorithm performs a different set of features from where you can choose the suitable algorithm as per the requirement. See Erasure Options, to know more.
4. Why is it necessary to connect the domain using administrator credentials for accessing the network?
The software is meticulously designed with a focus on prioritizing security. As a result, only the domain administrators can access the network once their credentials are verified and validated. It ensures that only authorized domain administrators can access the software and initiate data erasure operations. Refer to Connect Domain section for detailed information.
5. Can I check the network connection status for all of the computers connected to the domain?
Yes, when you connect to the domain, BitRaser File Eraser Network automatically verifies the network connection status of each computer. However, this process can be time-consuming, especially with a large number of OUs. To expedite this, you have the option to disable this feature by deselecting the checkbox labeled "Check Network Connection Status for Each Computer" under the General tab.
6. The network connection indicates the computer active, yet when I attempt the erasure, an inaccessible dialog box pops up. What might be the reason for this?
The network connection doesn't update or refresh continuously, and it determines the computer's status at the time the test was conducted. Therefore, when the network connection status was verified, the computer would have been active or running. However, since it's no longer in that state, an inaccessible dialog box appears while you attempt the erasure. In order to view the updated status close the application and run the test again.
7. Can I manually erase data from a computer that is not a part of the domain anymore?
No, you won't be able to manually erase data or schedule any tasks on a disconnected computer or OU until it is connected to the domain again.
8. If a computer disconnects from the domain after a task has been scheduled for it, will the task still execute on it?
Yes, if a computer or OU is disconnected from the domain after a task has already been scheduled for it, the task still executes at its scheduled time. Therefore, it is advised to delete the task or remove the computer from the scheduled task before disconnecting it from the domain.
9. Can I activate my software offline?
Yes, keeping the privacy of user into consideration, BitRaser File Eraser Network enables you to activate your software offline. Refer to Online and Offline Activation section of the manual to learn more.
10. How can i check if my licenses are expiring soon?
To check the expiration of your licenses, access the Manage Licenses feature of BitRaser File Eraser Network. It highlights licenses nearing expiration in red color and offers the option to extend their validity using the "Extend Validity" button.
11. I don't want to erase all of the Internet activities. How can I do that?
BitRaser File Eraser Network offers you the option to either erase all traces of internet activities or selectively choose specific ones for erasure. Refer to Erase Traces Settings for more information.
12. Can System Traces remain unerased even after the erasure process is completed?
This problem arises in case you are viewing the recently created files or folders, as the operating system automatically creates some system traces at different time intervals. Therefore, for better results, no activity should be taking place on the computer undergoing erasure.
13. Can i exclude some files or folders from erasure process?
Yes, you can exclude the important files or folders you wish to save from erasure by putting them in the Ignore File List. You can exclude your files on the basis of file extension and file or folder name.
14. Can i schedule two tasks with a same name?
In order to prevent any confusion, BitRaser File Eraser Network does not allow you to create two tasks with a same name.
15. What if i don't wish to see the confirmation dialog box everytime before erasure?
BitRaser File Eraser Network allows you to customize the software settings, giving you the ability to prevent the display of the "Confirm to Proceed" dialog box by deselecting the "Show Confirmation Message on Each Erasure" checkbox in general settings. Alternatively, you can opt out directly when the dialog box appears by selecting the "Don't show this message again" checkbox.
16. Is it possible to return and reuse the license on another computer if I no longer want to use it on the current one?
Yes, BitRaser File Eraser Network allows you to return the license to the remaining licenses by deactivating the license for a particular computer. Refer to View Computers section for detailed information.
17. Can I get the reports of the data I have deleted so far?
Yes, BitRaser File Eraser Network provides erasure reports. See Reports for more details.
18. Can I save and preview the erasure reports?
Yes, you can do it. See Preview and Save a Report section to know more.
19. Can I save multiple reports at once?
In order to ensure the software operates smoothly, you can save only one report at a time. However, In BitRaser Cloud you are allowed to save multiple reports at once.
20. What if I lose or misplace erasure reports on my system, what can I do?
The application provides functionality to send erasure reports to Cloud so it could be secured even when not in use. See Send Report to BitRaser Cloud to know more.
