The RAID must be dismantled before performing data erasure on a Lenovo server. This ensures that no residual data remains on the server. Since RAID presents multiple physical drives as a single logical unit, simply erasing the logical drive is not enough to completely remove sensitive data. If RAID is left intact, data fragments can be left behind, creating security and compliance risks. This KB provides detailed instructions on how to dismantle RAID on a Lenovo server.
RAID dismantling on a Lenovo server can be performed in two ways:
- Method 1: Direct Connection using a Monitor, keyboard, and mouse
- Method 2: Using Lenovo XClarity Controller - XCC (To connect remotely)
This KB will focus on the direct connection method using an Ethernet cable. However, if you wish to dismantle RAID remotely, then establish a connection using XCC, reboot the system, and follow the steps mentioned below to dismantle RAID on Lenovo servers.
- Step 1: Power ‘ON’ the server, and press ‘F1’ to enter ‘System Configuration and Boot Management.’ (See Image 1 a)
Scroll down to ‘System Settings’ and press Enter. (See Image 1 b)

- Step 6: On the ‘Warning’ screen, navigate to the checkbox next to ‘Confirm’ and press the ‘spacebar’ to check it. Then, select ‘Yes’ and press Enter. (See Image 6 a)
You have successfully dismantled RAID Configuration on the Lenovo server. (See Image 6 b)

Verify that the RAID configuration has been dismantled by accessing the BIOS and confirm that disks are detected as individual drives.
Next Steps: Once the RAID has been dismantled, you can proceed with secure data erasure using BitRaser. Read the steps to perform erasure on a Server.
